Guidelines for Program Social Media Accounts
Pima JTED encourages responsible use of social media to promote our programs, celebrate student success, and engage our community. To protect students, staff, and the integrity of our district, please follow these communication guidelines. Employees are required to register all JTED program social media accounts. We reserve the right to delete accounts using the JTED name and brand that are not registered.
Per an Executive Order from the Governor of Arizona, State – including JTED – employees are prohibited from accessing TikTok on any device that is used to conduct District business.
1. Account Naming and Branding
- If students use the Pima JTED name or logo in any part of the account name, handle, or profile, the program teacher must have full administrative access to the account.
- A Pima JTED District email address must be used to create/recover the account.
- Credentials must be shared with supervisors or administrators for accountability.
- Teachers are responsible for monitoring all content to ensure it remains professional and appropriate.
- Students are welcome to create personal or class-related accounts that do not use the Pima JTED name or identity. They may post about their JTED experience in your class on their own platforms, but they are still required to follow all District policies.
2. Student Safety
- Accounts must be actively monitored for inappropriate comments, messages, or tags.
- Teachers must report any harassment, bullying, or misuse that occurs online.
- Turn off location tagging on photos and posts.
- Follow FERPA and District privacy requirements at all times. Don’t share student schedules, locations, or identifying information.
- Professional boundaries apply, do not friend or interact with students from a personal social media account.
2. Photo and Video Permissions
- Check with the Registrar to confirm which students have photo releases before posting any photos or videos.
- Always ask permission from any student who will appear in a photo, reel, or story before posting.
- Ensure fair representation — feature a variety of students, not just the account holder or their close friends.
3. Political and Brand Compliance
- Keep all interactions respectful, factual, and focused on learning.
- It is against State law to post, like, or comment on any political content using a JTED-affiliated account.
- Avoid engaging with or promoting content that is not aligned with JTED’s brand or mission, including:
– Inappropriate language or images
– Criticism of students, staff or families
– Anything that could harm the JTED brand or reputation
Violating these laws or policies could result in fines or other disciplinary action.
4. Public Records and Comment Management
- Any social media account using the Pima JTED name or logo is considered property of the State of Arizona.
- Posts and comments are subject to public records requests.
- Do not delete negative comments unless they:
- Contain profanity or obscene language,
- Are personal attacks, or
- Are clearly spam.
5. Support and Oversight
- We strongly encourage you to partner with the Pima JTED Communications team for support and monitoring.
- Our team can help ensure posts meet legal, ethical, and brand standards while highlighting your students’ great work safely and effectively.
- Working together ensures all JTED social media communication stays safe, inclusive, and professional — while showcasing the outstanding work happening across our programs.
