Medical Records Technician

Gain the skills necessary to work with medical records in a variety of rapidly growing non-clinical health care settings. Medical Records Technology is a combination of business, science, and information technology that will qualify you to work within the electronic medical record, as well as acquire, analyze, and protect digital and traditional medical information which is vital to providing quality patient care.  Earn Pima Community College credit, which you can apply toward an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology.

Certification

After successful completion of the HIT classes students are eligible to sit for the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) certification

Things to Consider About This Program

  • You will have the opportunity to work in a doctor’s office, hospital administrative office or from home with a 3rd party organization.
  • MRT is a healthcare opportunity but does not provide patient care.
  • Strong computer skills are recommended.
  • In this program you are a high school student and a college student. Your performance is reflected on your transcript for your high school and Pima Community College.
  • Your grades for this course will impact your college GPA as well as your high school GPA.

Medical Billing & Coding

Become proficient in billing and coding, which are two separate processes that are crucial to receiving payment for health care services. Learn medical coding to extract billable information from the medical record and clinical documentation, and use those codes for medical billing to create insurance claims and bills for patients.
