Medical Records Technology

  • Become a Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) and you’ll have the credentials employers are looking for to play a critical role in keeping a medical records office running smoothly.
  • Medical Records Technology is a combination of business, science, and information technology that will qualify you to work within the electronic medical record, as well as acquire, analyze, and protect digital and traditional medical information which is vital to providing quality patient care.
  • Your CEHRS certification from the National Healthcareer Association will prepare you to work within a Medical Records department in diverse roles such as Medical Records Technologist or office assistant, and creates the opportunity to work into other positions, such as medical records coder, insurance biller, and informatics professional.
  • Earn Pima Community College dual credit, which you can apply toward an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology.

Medical Records Technology

This is a two-year program.
New class starts on Jan. 8, 2018. Pre-enroll online, and plan to attend orientation from 5 – 6 p.m. on either Dec. 5 (at JTED @ Camino Seco), or Dec. 6 (at JTED @ Master Pieces).

First Year

Location: Online + JTED @ Camino Seco, JTED @ Master Pieces

Eligibility

  • Grade 11
  • No high school diploma or GED before program completion

Meeting times:
Online + class two Tuesdays/month 4:30-7:30 p.m. (JTED @ Master Pieces)
Online + class two Thursdays/month 4:30-7:30 p.m. (JTED @ Camino Seco)

Credits:1/year

Second Year

Location: Online + JTED @ Camino Seco, JTED @ Master Pieces

Eligibility:

  • Grade 12
  • This program requires fingerprint clearance, drug testing and a background check.
  • In order to obtain certification, students must pass a written skills exam.
  • No high school diploma or GED before program completion

Meeting times:
Online + class two days/month 4:30-7:30 p.m. (Location and dates TBD)
