Pima JTED has received a federal grant renewal from the Child and Adult Care Food Program to provide healthy snacks free of charge to students who attend evening and Saturday programs at the district’s JTED @ Camino Seco and JTED @ Master Pieces campuses. With the help of the grant, originally awarded in 2013, Pima JTED has continuously provided approximately 800 students a day with a low-sugar snack that includes whole grains, fresh fruit or vegetables, dairy, and protein.
Pima JTED Grants and Data Specialist Terri Howard says the grant is essential to helping students pursue careers in high school. “Most of our students attend their public high school during the day and head straight to their JTED program afterward. The healthy snacks we offer play a crucial role in sustaining their energy levels and focus, ensuring they can perform optimally in both academic and technical training environments throughout their extended day.”
