Pima JTED’s Little Lions Preschool has received the highest rating possible in the state of Arizona, distinguishing itself as one of the top preschools to earn a five-star Quality First rating from First Things First. This state-funded organization supports early childhood education and health programs aimed at improving children’s success. It established a voluntary ranking system to inform parents about preschools that exceed quality standards and foster a nurturing environment conducive to their child’s learning.

Quality First participating providers collaborate with a coach to assess their programs and implement quality improvement plans in areas that research shows help young children thrive. Programs are then rated based on how well they meet the following standards:

  • Health and safety practices
  • Staff qualifications
  • Teacher-child interactions
  • Learning environments
  • Lessons
  • Group sizes
  • Child assessment and parent communication
