Gain the knowledge to start your path in healthcare, practicing skills, exploring careers, and participating in real life experiences. Apply anatomy & physiology to patient care scenarios. Broaden your opportunities for personal and professional growth with strong leadership and workplace readiness skills. We strongly encourage this prerequisite for all Advanced Healthcare Programs.


Eligibility

Grade 11

Number of Years to Complete this Program

1 year to complete

This is an introductory course into all of the advanced healthcare pathway programs that JTED offers. Students will not be considered a “completer”/”concentrator” by the state of Arizona after taking this course alone.

Things to Consider

  1. You must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  2. You must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  3. Strong communication skills and compassion for people/family are necessary.

Program Completion/Sequence

Year 1

  • Semester 1: “Life of the Disease Patient Scenarios,” Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology, Disease & Disorder, Patient care skills, healthcare career exploration, community presentations
  • Semester 2: “Life of the Disease Patient Scenarios,” Anatomy & Physiology, Disease & Disorder, Patient care skills, healthcare career exploration, community outreach Social Determinants of Health  
  • This program is completed in one school year, and provides an opportunity to apply for an advanced healthcare pathway

Supplies

  • Blood pressure cuff (Do not purchase the combination stethoscope/blood pressure cuff that is attached together from Wal-Mart/Walgreens, etc.)
  • Wrist watch with a second hand for taking vitals. Mandatory part of dress code – must be worn every day. No digital or smart watches.
  • Stethoscope with a bell and diaphragm.
