Gain the knowledge to start your path in medicine, practice clinical skills, and explore a wide range of health care careers. Broaden your opportunities for personal and professional growth with strong leadership and workplace readiness skills.

*This course is a prerequisite for all the senior Health Care Pathway programs.


Eligibility

Grades 11

Things to Consider

  1. You must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  2. You must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  3. Strong communication skills and compassion for people/family are necessary.

Program Completion/Sequence

Year 1

  • Semester 1: Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Community Immersion Project, Community presentations, Exploration of healthcare pathways  
  • Semester 2: Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Community Immersion Project  
  • This program is completed in one school year, and provides an opportunity to apply for an advanced healthcare pathway

Entrance Requirements for Advanced Health Care Pathway

  • Completion of Advanced Health Care Pathway Application or Program Audit Tool
  • Successful completion of BLS Certification 
  • 75% overall grade each semester
  • Attendance: Absent no more than 18.5 hrs per year

Supplies

  • Blood pressure cuff (Do not purchase the combination stethoscope/blood pressure cuff that is attached together from Wal-Mart/Walgreens, etc.)
  • Wrist watch with a second hand for taking vitals. Mandatory part of dress code – must be worn every day. No digital or smart watches.
  • Stethoscope with a bell and diaphragm.

Uniform

  • One set JTED navy scrubs
  • One JTED black scrub jacket

Dual Enrollment

  • HIT 105: Medical Terminology (3 credits)
  • HIT 108: Health Information Employment Professionalism (1 credit)

**Dual Enrollment Credits available to students are dependent on teacher credentials*
