The Certified Caregiver Program at Pima JTED prepares students to meet state and federal standards for providing compassionate, effective care in assisted living settings. Students gain foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in safety, infection control, personal care, mental health, communication, basic nursing, medication administration, and more. With high expectations and real-world clinical experiences, the program inspires students to excel in healthcare while building a strong foundation for future careers.
Eligibility
- Grade 12
- Eligible for high school graduation within the same school year of JTED program completion
- Prerequisite course with a C or better or minimum 2.0 home high school cumulative GPA as demonstrated on high school transcript
- Prerequisite course options: Healthcare Foundations, Sports Medicine, Anatomy/Physiology, Social/Mental Health Tech, Health & Medical Careers OR EMS
- Submission of high school transcript

Other Requirements
- Be able to obtain fingerprint clearance card, pass industry required drug testing, and background checks
- For clinicals, externships, certifications, and licenses provide social security number
- U.S. government issued Photo ID
- Pre-participation health screening
- Must hold current Basic Life Support CPR Certification before start of class
- Current Immunization Records required for certifications, clinicals, and internships
- Hepatitis B, Current year two-step TB test, Varicella, MMR, polio, Tdap, current year flu, and complete COVID vaccines
- Provide own transportation to off site clinicals
Things to Consider
- You must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- You must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Strong communication skills and compassion for people are necessary.
- You must have the ability to complete medical tasks like using needles and syringes.
- Attendance is extremely important! Students with more than 24 hours of absences over the course of the year will not be allowed to sit for certification.
- You will act as a patient and a CCG in this program while learning skills. This means that you will have skills performed on you as well as you being the one to practice the skills.

Schedule Availability
- Only available during the daytime schedule + 40 hours clinicals required for certification. Clinicals will be held on Saturdays.

- Semester 1: Overview of the CCG role, Legal/Ethical, communication, infection control, nutrition/food preparation, basic caregiver skills, job management, restorative services
- Semester 2: Fire safety, emergency procedures, home environment, service plans, mental/social, cognitively impaired, medication administration, clinicals
