Early Childhood Education

Explore developmental growth in children from birth through age eight, plan and execute developmentally appropriate activities in our fully-licensed Little Lions Preschool.


  • Year 1: CPR & First Aid
  • Year 2: eFoodHandlers and CPR & First Aid
  • Year 3: Arizona Department of Education Intro to Infant/Toddler Guidelines  AND, Arizona Department of Education Intro to Arizona Early Learning Standards, CPR & First Aid

Things to Consider About this Program

  • Will be required to complete a Child Care Licensing File to participate in the preschool.
  • Work in close contact with the preschool children (51%) of class time
  • May come into contact with bodily fluids
  • Vivid imagination and creative skills 
  • Willing to role play as a preschooler for peer lessons

JTED @ Mountain View:

Monday through Friday per school bell schedule 

  • Intermediate (ECE 3-4), period 1 
  • Advanced (ECE 5-6), period 2 
  • Beginning (ECE 1-2), period 3 or 4
  • Internship (ECE 7-8), any period of the day

Program Completion/Sequence

  • Year 1 (Early Childhood 1-2): Explore child Development theorists, milestones, and developmentally appropriate interactions.
  • Year 2 (Early Childhood 3-4): Dissect the AZ Early Learning Standards and create activities for children. Research career pathways and participate in industry trainings.
  • Year 3 (Early Childhood 5-6): Utilizing the AZ Early Learning Standards expand on year 2 and work independently to create, implement, and evaluate appropriate activities for children. 
  • Year 4 (Early Childhood 7-8): Internship, must be currently enrolled in year 2 or 3. Assist the preschool staff to run the behind the scenes of the preschool. Implement the skills learned in the eFoodhandlers training and from previous years. 



(Earn 3 dual PCC credits Year 2 for ECE117 Child Growth & Development, Year 3 for ECE228 Young Child Family & Culture, and ECE125 Nutrition/Health/Safety in Young Children)
