This program covers diagnostic techniques, and the principles of mechanics, electricity and electronics as they relate to the repair, installation, service, and maintenance of HVAC-R systems.



Eligibility

Grade 12

Other Requirements

  • Students are required to attend an Information Session in the Spring semester
    • JTED will communicate with students and parents the days and times of the sessions
  • Parents/Guardians complete JTED enrollment 
  • Students complete PCC Onboarding requirements
    • Apply to PCC 
  • Attend JTED & PCC New Student Orientation

Number of Years to Complete

1.5 years to complete (Fall, Spring & Summer sessions)

Things to Consider

  1. In this program high school students complete
    • Hybrid classes (a blend of in-person and online learning) 
    • 80% mastery required on all certification exams
  2. Students provide their own transportation to the downtown campus
  3. In this program, you are a high school student and a college student. Your performance is reflected on your transcript for your high school and Pima Community College.
  4. Your grades for this course will impact your college GPA as well as your high school GPA.
  5. Students earn college credit while in the program.
  6. Students need to be 18 years old & have an Arizona driver’s license for direct employment.
  7. Earning a high school diploma or HSE is required for direct employment.
  8. Students should be able to lift 40 lbs.
  9. If student wants their EPA certification, they will be required to complete level II & III HVAC classes in the Summer session.

JTED @ Pima Community College (Downtown)

1255 North Stone Ave.

Schedule Availability

  • Classes are scheduled per semester (days & times will vary)
  • Students are expected to be on campus 2 evenings a week between 4 – 10 p.m.*

*Class times & locations are subject to change by Pima Community College

    • BCT 105 – Professionalism in Service, Construction Math, Basic Rigging 
    • BCT 107 – Basic Safety, Hand & Power Tools, Blueprint reading 
  • Spring
    • BCT 132 – Residential & Industrial HVAC I 
  • Summer
    • BCT133 – Residential & Industrical HVAC II
    • BCT134  Residential & Industrial HVAC III
Arizona Department of Education Standards

Certifications

  • OSHA (Fall)
  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification (Summer)
